July 2021

Congratulations to MFCG member Debbie on completing the 3 Peaks Challenge on 11th July. Well done Debbie! This is actually the second time Debbie has completed it - last week Debbie and Alison, also an MFCG member, completed an unofficial challenge after the official event was postponed due to bad weather. They would both like to say a huge thank you to all those who sponsored them to help raise funds for the IoM Children's Centre.

MFCG led organised two walks to celebrate Manx Wildlife Week. On Thursday 8th July Tony Archibald led a delightful leisurely walk starting at Hango Hill, Langness where the group had the opportunity to view a variety of wildlife including Choughs, Herons, Stonechats, Eider Ducks, Oystercatchers and many more. A couple of days later several guests joined the Saturday group for a 10 mile hike led by Ken Harding over rough moorland to Colden Hill, the 6th highest peak on the Island at 1600ft. This walk offered far reaching views across the island and beyond. A big thank you to both Tony and Ken for leading two very enjoyable walks.

We still have a few places left on our next First Aid Course on Thursday 2nd September. If you would like to gain some valuable first aid skills please contact secretary@manxfootpaths.org. asap to secure your place. There are two sessions available, one in the afternoon from 2-5pm and one in the evening from 6-9pm. The course, which is free to members, is packed with useful information about basic first aid interventions. This is a great opportunity to expand your knowledge and have fun practicing your skills.

Join Debbie over the SuperManx Bank Holiday weekend at the end of August on a series of 4 full day hill walks exploring all areas of our beautiful island. The walks will progress from moderate to strenuous over the 4 days. So give yourself a challenge, be with friends and see what you can achieve! The walks aim to include a significant number of the Top 10 peaks on the island. Explore marilyns, a mountain and more!  Day/date               Start time      Start                    Distance         Hrs                                                                  Point                    (miles)        walking Friday 27th August      10.00am     SC19969               10-12            6 1/2                                                    (Port Erin Legion CP) Saturday 28th August   09.45am    SC278816                13-14              7                                                     (St Johns Station                                                      Road CP) Sunday 29th August     09.30am    SC359837                 14-15            7 ½                                                      (Colden Plantation                                                     West Baldwin CP) Monday 30th August    09.15am     SC398782               17-18              8                                                      (Bus stop at                                                      Manx Arms) Notes: Walks will start promptly at the given time.
